Let the Fun Begin

The Sippy Cup Backstory.

When Anita was a kid, her dad gifted her a RCA Portable Cassette Shoebox Recorder (picture below) for Christmas. Her very first electronic. It was never on her wish list, but she smiled, and took it away to play. Turns out, it would be the best gift, ever! After discovering that she could record anything without a wired mic, her mind began buzzing with ideas.

She experimented with proximity, making funny voices and impersonating an investigative reporter. No stuffed animal was safe.

At snack time, while sipping from a sippy cup, she wondered, what her voice would sound like with apple juice? She debated for a minute, and in the name of exploration, she did it.

RCA Shoebox Recorder

She tipped her cup, poured apple juice into the speaker, and hit play. A cool garble effect layered overtop her voice. She was AMAZED! So she poured more. The garble became thick. Anita was mesmerized by her own genius. Did anyone else know about this?! Did she just stumbled onto a new… !?! … silence … it died.

Scared about getting in trouble, Anita hid the body and walked out to the living room. When her dad asked where the recorder was, she replied nonchalantly, “I got tired of it”… but really, she was heartbroken. It had only been two days, and throughout that time they were inseparable.

And so, the Sippy Cup Audio name was born in honour of that audio endeavour. As a reminder, and a promise to maintain the fun and creative process of that inner-child, while cultivating quality sound pieces.
